Terms of Service
These terms are an agreement between you and [OPERATOR'S FULL LEGAL NAME], who operates CampusRide as an individual ("CampusRide", "we", "us"). They apply to the CampusRide rider app, the CampusRide Driver app and this website. By creating an account you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use CampusRide.
1. What CampusRide is
CampusRide is an app that connects people who need a ride around the University of Ghana, Legon, and nearby areas ("riders") with independent drivers who offer rides in their own cars ("drivers"). CampusRide does not itself provide transport. Drivers are not our employees or agents; each trip is an arrangement between the rider and the driver, and CampusRide provides the app that arranges it.
CampusRide is a new service. Features, the service area and fares may change, and the service may sometimes be unavailable. We'll try to give notice of important changes.
2. Who can use it
- You must be 18 or older. This applies to riders and drivers.
- You need a mobile phone number that can receive text messages.
- Drivers must also meet the requirements in section 7 and be approved by CampusRide before taking trips. We may refuse or withdraw approval at our discretion.
3. Your account
- Use your real name and your own phone number. One account per person.
- Keep your phone and sign-in codes to yourself. You are responsible for what happens on your account. Tell us at once if you think someone else has used it.
- You can delete your account at any time.
- How we handle your data is explained in our Privacy Policy.
4. Fares and cash payment
- The fare is shown in the app before you book. It is a fixed fare for the trip type you choose (shared or private), not a meter.
- Shared rides: other riders going your way may join the car, up to four riders in total. Your fare never goes up because others join.
- Payment is in cash, paid by the rider directly to the driver at the end of the trip. Please carry small change. The app does not take card or mobile money payments.
- Drivers owe CampusRide a commission on each completed trip, shown in the Driver app, and agree to pay it as and when CampusRide asks. Unpaid commission may lead to suspension.
- A trip a driver forgets to end is completed automatically some hours after it started, at its booked fare.
- If you think a fare was wrong, contact support within 7 days.
5. Cancellations and no-shows
- Riders can cancel a request or a booked trip in the app before the trip starts. There is currently no cancellation fee. If we introduce one, we will show it in the app before you book.
- If no driver accepts your request within a short time, the app will tell you and let you keep waiting or change your ride.
- No-shows: once the driver has arrived at your pickup, please be ready. If you don't show up within a few minutes of the driver arriving, the driver may cancel your pickup.
- Drivers may decline requests without penalty, but should not accept a trip they don't intend to complete. Repeated cancellations after accepting may lead to suspension.
6. Riders' responsibilities
- Set the correct pickup and drop-off points, and be at the pickup on time.
- Check the car, number plate and driver's photo in the app match before getting in.
- Wear a seatbelt where one is available, and respect the driver's car and other passengers.
- Pay the fare in cash at the end of the trip.
- You are responsible for your belongings. We'll try to help reunite lost items but can't guarantee it.
7. Drivers' responsibilities
As a driver, you confirm and agree that, for as long as you drive with CampusRide:
- You hold a valid Ghanaian driving licence for the vehicle you drive.
- Your vehicle is registered, roadworthy and has the certificates Ghanaian law requires, and the car, plate and photo in your profile are accurate and yours.
- You have insurance that covers carrying passengers for payment, as Ghanaian law requires, and any permits needed to offer rides.
- You obey traffic law, never drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs, and don't use your phone in a way that is unsafe or unlawful while driving.
- You only take riders who booked through the app on that trip, and you take them by a reasonable route.
- You are an independent driver, not an employee of CampusRide. You choose when to go online and are responsible for your own taxes, costs and vehicle.
- While you're online, the Driver app shares your location as described in the Privacy Policy.
We may ask to see your licence, vehicle documents or insurance at any time, and may suspend you until we have.
8. Conduct
Everyone using CampusRide must not:
- Harass, threaten, discriminate against, or be violent or sexually inappropriate towards anyone.
- Carry anything illegal or dangerous, or use a trip for anything unlawful.
- Use someone else's account, give false information, or misuse SOS.
- Contact the other person after a trip for anything unrelated to it (for example, a lost item is fine).
- Try to break, copy, overload or get around the security of the app or our systems.
9. Safety and SOS
- In an emergency, call 112 (Ghana's emergency number) first.
- During a trip, a rider can press SOS in the app. It texts the rider's emergency contact (if saved) and CampusRide a private link to follow the trip. SOS depends on mobile networks and text messages, which can fail or be delayed, and it does not alert the police or an ambulance. It is not a substitute for emergency services.
- Report any safety incident to us as soon as you can via support. We may share information with the police where the law requires or someone's safety is at risk.
10. Ratings
After a trip, riders and drivers can rate each other and leave a comment. Be honest and fair. Ratings help keep CampusRide safe; consistently low ratings may lead to a review of the account.
11. Suspension and closing accounts
We may suspend or close an account, or withdraw a driver's approval, if these terms are broken, if there is a safety concern, if a driver's documents can't be confirmed, or if the law requires it. Where it is safe and lawful to do so, we'll tell you why. You can close your account at any time.
12. Liability
- CampusRide is provided "as is". We don't promise the app will always be available, error-free, or that a driver will always be available.
- Drivers are responsible for the trips they provide. To the extent the law allows, CampusRide is not liable for the acts or omissions of riders or drivers, or for loss or damage arising from a trip, including injury, delay, or lost or damaged property.
- To the extent the law allows, CampusRide is not liable for indirect or consequential loss, and our total liability to you for any claim is limited to the fares you paid on CampusRide in the three months before the claim (or GHS 100 if greater).
- Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited under Ghanaian law, including for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or for fraud.
- You agree to cover losses CampusRide suffers because you broke these terms or the law.
13. General
- Changes: we may update these terms. We'll change the date at the top and, for important changes, tell you in the app before they take effect. Using CampusRide after that means you accept the new terms.
- Transfer: if CampusRide becomes a company or is transferred, we may transfer these terms to it.
- Law: these terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Ghana. We'll try to resolve any dispute with you informally first; if we can't, the courts of Ghana have jurisdiction.
- If any part of these terms is found unenforceable, the rest still applies.
